Historical - Cottages of Glen Lake
Nationally-recognized architectural photographer Dietrich Floeter and Leelanau Press publisher Barbara Siepker capture the beauty and essence of 60 summer cottages and the nostalgia enveloping them. In a recently released second edition of Historic Cottages of Glen Lake six new cottages have been added, together with updated text. The book contains 350 black and white photographs of the cottages’ cozy interiors. Detailed text introduces a previously undocumented era through narratives from cottage owners. The families tell the stories of where they came from, how they got Glen Lake, and where they first lived. They fell in love with Glen Lake and the Sleeping Bear Dunes, sending down deep roots and building these now-historical family retreats. The resort era and how it overlapped the lumbering era is central to the story, along with local craftsmen, architects and builders.
Originally published in 2008, Historic Cottages of Glen Lake received three book awards: the 2008 Historical Society of Michigan award and a Foreword Magazine Book Award Finalist. and a 2009 Michigan Notable Book by The Library of Michigan.
